2006 Hollyhock Summer Gathering: "Being a Force of Nature: Leadership in Service of the Whole"
| Cortes Island, British Columbia, Canada | 70 participants
2006 Hollyhock Summer Gathering, an annual invitational conference.. This year's Gathering "Being a Force of Nature: Leadership in Service of the Whole" will explore the skillful means that we can use individually and collectively to make a positive impact on the challenges and crises that face us in today's world The Hollyhock Summer Gathering, which started over twenty years ago, is part exploration of ideas and strategies and part summer holiday. It brings together a vibrant, diverse group of movers and shakers, social entrepreneurs, educators, healers, artists, and thinkers to explore social transformation and human consciousness. For five days you will be immersed in the spectacular natural beauty of Cortes Island, and nurtured by the magical place that is Hollyhock (www.hollyhock.ca). We like to think of the Gathering as a summer camp for people who care about the world and are willing to DO something about it. We trust that when a passionate, bright, and committed group spends five relaxed days together at Hollyhock "shift happens." And this has been born out year after year. Operating on the principle that real creativity at conferences happens over tea or in the hot tub, as well as in seminars, the Gathering has a flexible structure with plenty of time for informal conversation, creative expression, and fun. Morning plenary sessions feature dynamic, interactive presentations by social artists and entrepreneurs from a variety of disciplines. The afternoons are self-organized using a "modified open space" process through which participants offer their work and ideas to each other. Afternoons afford time for swimming, hiking, kayaking, massage, creative arts, and the like. In the evenings we challenge ourselves to practice building a new culture by throwing a better party! We have TOTAL FUN with dance parties, storytelling, improv games, an open mic, an oyster barbeque, and sunset meditations.
To say Hollyhock is wonderful place is an understement. I encourage you to check out their site and to find a way to take one or many of their programs - or just to go there to retreat and rest. You won't regret it. KK
